Safety Disclaimer

Finding Horizons connects travellers to each other: you can host or join a meetup, and broadcast that you are around a city and open to meeting up. If you choose to meet another user in person, you do so entirely at your own risk. These are meetings between strangers, arranged through an app, in places you may not know.

We cannot guarantee the safety of any in-person meeting, and we are not present at one.

Hosting a meetup or going live requires a one-time identity check, run by Stripe Identity: the person photographs a government-issued identity document and takes a matching selfie.

Understand precisely what that proves. It is not a safety guarantee. It confirms that someone presented a document that appeared genuine and a face that matched it. That is all it is:

• It is not a criminal-record or background check
• It is not a check against any sex-offender, watch, or sanctions list
• It is not a judgement about anyone's character, intentions, or conduct
• It does not mean we know, endorse, or vouch for that person
• It does not apply to everyone — attending a meetup does not require it

A verified badge is a weak signal that someone is a real, traceable person. Do not let it replace any precaution in section 2. Treat a verified stranger exactly as carefully as an unverified one.

If you arrange to meet another user through Finding Horizons, we strongly recommend:

• Meeting in a public, well-lit place (café, hotel lobby, public square)
• Telling someone you trust where you are going and who you are meeting
• Having your own transportation to and from the meeting
• Not sharing your accommodation address before meeting in person
• Trusting your instincts — if you feel unsafe, leave
• Not meeting at private residences until you know the person well

If you use any location-sharing features:

• Only share your location with people you trust
• Neighbourhood or city-level visibility is shared first — precise location sharing requires a separate explicit opt-in
• You can disable location sharing at any time from Settings
• Do not share your accommodation's exact address in public-facing posts

If you encounter unsafe behaviour from another user, block and report them immediately. Blocking is enforced on our servers and hides the two of you from each other — they cannot see your profile, your presence, or your meetups, and cannot interact with your content. Reports are reviewed by our team.

For urgent safety concerns, always contact local emergency services first. The app is not a safety or emergency tool.

Finding Horizons is not an emergency service. If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services (911 in Canada/US, or the appropriate number for your location). Do not rely on the app for emergency communication or assistance.

Travel carries inherent risks. Finding Horizons is not responsible for personal injury, property loss, or harm that occurs during travel or at places you discover through the app. Always:

• Check your government's travel advisories before traveling to any destination
• Obtain comprehensive travel insurance for international trips
• Respect local laws, customs, and safety regulations
• Do not rely solely on the app for navigation or safety-critical decisions

Finding Horizons is not liable for any harm, injury, loss, or damage arising from in-person meetings facilitated through the Service, use of location-sharing features, or travel decisions made based on app data. You participate in all activities at your own risk.
