Safety Disclaimer
Meetups, location sharing, and in-person safety
Last updated May 2026
Working draft
This page is a working draft and should be reviewed by qualified legal counsel before public launch.
1. In-Person Meetings at Your Own Risk
Finding Horizons may facilitate connections between travellers (nomad mode, meetups, local guide features — coming in future versions). If you choose to meet another user in person, you do so entirely at your own risk.
Finding Horizons does not verify the identity, background, or intentions of any user. We cannot guarantee the safety of any in-person meeting.
2. Safe Meetup Recommendations
If you arrange to meet another user through Finding Horizons, we strongly recommend:
- Meeting in a public, well-lit place (café, hotel lobby, public square)
- Telling someone you trust where you are going and who you are meeting
- Having your own transportation to and from the meeting
- Not sharing your accommodation address before meeting in person
- Trusting your instincts — if you feel unsafe, leave
- Not meeting at private residences until you know the person well
3. Location Sharing Warnings
If you use any location-sharing features:
- Only share your location with people you trust
- Neighbourhood or city-level visibility is shared first — precise location sharing requires a separate explicit opt-in
- You can disable location sharing at any time from Settings
- Do not share your accommodation's exact address in public-facing posts
See our Location Data Policy for how we handle location technically.
4. Block & Report
If you encounter unsafe behaviour from another user, use the block and report features immediately. Blocked users cannot see your profile or interact with your content. Reports are reviewed by our team.
For urgent safety concerns, always contact local emergency services first. The app is not a safety or emergency tool.
To report a safety issue: support@findinghorizons.ca with "Safety Report" in the subject line.
5. Emergency Services
Finding Horizons is not an emergency service. If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services (911 in Canada/US, or the appropriate number for your location). Do not rely on the app for emergency communication or assistance.
6. Travel Safety
Travel carries inherent risks. Finding Horizons is not responsible for personal injury, property loss, or harm that occurs during travel or at places you discover through the app. Always:
- Check your government's travel advisories before traveling to any destination
- Obtain comprehensive travel insurance for international trips
- Respect local laws, customs, and safety regulations
- Do not rely solely on the app for navigation or safety-critical decisions
7. Limitation of Liability
Finding Horizons is not liable for any harm, injury, loss, or damage arising from in-person meetings facilitated through the Service, use of location-sharing features, or travel decisions made based on app data. You participate in all activities at your own risk.
